Pandemonium
The Pandemonium is a large, extremely dangerous area populated with monsters and death. It is situated geographically under the red line, right in the middle of the grand line. Only one crew has managed to cross through alive so far.
Logs
The Burning Angels's Expedition
DAY ONE
As I write this log, the Red Maiden has breached the outer layers of the Pandemonium biological dead zone. Even in death, i fear for my life already. All of us do, even our proud captain, who I know well enough to tell he’s hiding his fear behind a poorly acted smile, though we all are grateful for him trying to reassure us.
By now, we’ve put Mary to sleep. the more she stays down the ship, safe and sound from the coming darkness, the better the captain feels, the better we all feel. She doesn't need to see this, and I sincerely hope she never will.
-Jonathan Rackam
DAY TWO
This place creeps me the fuck out! Ain’t got no waves, no wind, no smell of the sea, there ain’t even sound! Our asses be getting no stimulation at all… Cant even see shit for more than a mile away. However, i still be cookin straight fire, and if that makes the crew calm their asses down even a little, It’s all that matters.
On another damn note, we’re still wonderin what the fuck these bunch of eyes were. Captains says it seems to be in the family of sea snakes, but i know damn well sea snakes dont look like this kinda bullshit! I do trust him tho, with him, we boutta make it out alive, but god damn… I ain't ever seen shit like this in my whole life and I got a lotta years in me, trust me.
-Henry Morgan
DAY THREE
I aint no fair maiden, this lass has seen her fair share of gore and blood, but nothin coulda prepared any poor damn soul for what they’d witness, too many bodies to count, and despite that still no smell. There's countless empty ships we have to dodge, all of them have sails, but all visibly rowed, because there’s no wind here… To put the cherry on top, all of our devil fruit Barely work, like the air around us is snuffing the power out, Mary seems to be the only exception... And since we had to fight that thing… we constantly have to duck under the ship whenever we hear another one, just so it leaves us alone, fockin hell…
-Anne Bonnie
DAY FOUR
The others are asleep, for now. Tom and myself are taking shifts throughout the night, while Rackam focuses on driving, across this sea of curses one would never wish to see. Sometimes, Charlotte joins us, restless as she is, it does not surprise me. Even though there is nothing to see, we’ve been able to tell days from nights, as it gets so much worse during said nights. This… Whisperer… it’s voice so quiet, yet, so god forsaken loud… the only way to survive this mess is to sing the right song. I’m no such thing as a bard and I can guarantee that Thomas is even farther from that, but we’ve managed to survive from this giant face beneath the water, I guess i could consider this a win on our part.
-Mayron Silverbird
DAY FIVE
(This one has been corrected by Anne due to the multiple grammatical errors)
Hello, my name is Mary, i stole this book from dad. I’m bored, dad says i cant go outside and it’s been a week!
Aunty Bonnie mostly takes care of me, and i do have my toys, but i miss playing outside. One time, i got scared because the boat was shaking, like the boat was a dog toy.
That wasnt very fun. dad was yelling big orders I dont understand and there was big monster scream and it hurts my ears. I really dont like this place…
-Mary D. King Red
DAY SIX
This log is classified as scientific documents and thorough classification of the unknown and will therefore be longer than the others.
In my years on this mecanical ship, i’ve seen my shares of monsters and attrocities. I thought it numbed me, but what i’ve seen in this sea of dead stars… just might have frightened me, if only a little.
Thomas and I have been writing a "beastiary" of some sort, writing and drawing appearance, behaviors, and contingency plans. We have some pictures, but most of them look blurry due to the light being snuffed by what appears to be a a singularity point absorbing light around and making the air thicker and so much dryer, a place like this is unhabitable on long term, for anything that lives. Yet, theses creatures adapted to these god forsaken waters, who by themselves, have a deadly effect on anything non native. The same water seems to also slowly desintegrate wood for as long as its exposed, it had been observed while we were salvaging treasure from dead ships.
Contact with the water in pandemonium is not only freezing and acidic but also infested with bacteria known as P-004:" inkblood". It’s as persistent qs cancer cells and deadly like gangrene, but it’s disgustingly fast. Most people who try to get out die of this disease before even coming back the way they came, a gruesome sight.
We almost lost Mayron because of it because he was splashed while fighting an angler leviathan a few days ago. Luckily, Anne had found the way to eradicate ink blood presence from his body. It was the simultaneous use of very bright light, hot iron burning on the marked spot and the pouring of saline water at the exact timing of 7 seconds of marking and pour around 500ml of the water for every 10cm2. Although Inkblood is curable, it is deemed by Mayron, the worst pain imaginable and is best avoided at almost any cost.
-Charlotte Winchester
DAY 7 (FINAL DAY)
As i write this Log, my crew and I have breached the Pandemonium biological dead zone. Didnt go like a charm, but it went better than everybody else, we didnt get any help AND we’re all alive and well and THAT, I’ll take for sure.
Would i ever advise anyone to go in there? I shouldnt, but if you’re dumb enough, go ahead and have try at followin mah tracks!
Would i do it again? if i didnt have my kid, maybe! I can tell ya the treasure was worth it, maybe less now cuz we grabbed a lot, part of it paid my island.
Who knew we went there? The only folk i told anything was Moxie. She seemed worried, pretty outta character, but it’s my dumbass we talkin about, i be way to stubborn to hit the sea floor like a dead bird.
And if this one kid i talked to all those years ago really wanna follow the path I took like he said, just for ya, ill give ya my word of advice lower in the log, because I believe in the future, and i believe in freedom! Now here's what happened on the 7th, written by YOURS TRULY!
HOW TO WIN AGAINST BLACK SAM
On the 7th day of the expedition, the Red maiden got stopped by an invisible force. I was trying to restart my engine, but my igntion wouldnt budge and the throttle was blocked. I look ahead on the board and there he was… a man, if i can call him that, he didnt have legs, he looked like one of those fuckass mermaids we got on day 2, but his tail was longer, and his calm expression was more eerie than id like to admit. He was quiet too, he had a table and a deck of cards and he was shufflin em, waitin for me, by his dead ass stare. His name was Sam, Black Sam.
What he wanted was dead simple, a gamble, we won, we’d get a prize and we’d be on our merry way, if he’d win, we all go under.
What I did? You ask? I sat at the god damn table to play some cards, matey! Of course, I brought Mayron as my assistant to my… "strategy".
The game was a game of versus black jack. 10 coins each. The one who goes empty loses.
Of course, that scally bastard rigged the game, all his hands are black jacks. but worry not! We had a funny trick up our sleeves! For whoever plays next, first step! get a friend to your left, sam won’t mind. Second step! Make him act like he’s trying to steal a card from the deck, sam will then be focused on your friend! Third and final step! Trade your bad card with his good card, try to get an ace or a face card. Do that every turn and you win!
HOW TO CROSS THE PANDEMONIUM
Now that we got this out the way, the part that’s most important. Our strategy to cross this nightmarish sea. I’ll be real with ya this time, and i cant sugarcoat you with a nice little funny captain this time, i've seen a lot. We've all seen a lot. I can’t garantee your survival, no one can. What I can do, is help you make it safer and at least give you a chance to make it out alive. If you're one of these people, who are bold or stupid enough to try their luck in this rotten wasteland, hear this, avoid it at all cost, but I know you won’t, so here goes...
- have a sturdy streamlined boat. You don’t have to have a monocoque like I did, but it helps, if you got a wood boat, be ready to replace some planks because it’ll get destroyed if you don't.
- Forget your god damn sails… they do nothing in here, there ain't no wind, and devils fruit don't work that good.
- Have an engine of some kind. Rowing will tire you out before you can make it, I made the water engine, it’s cheap, and with around 20 liters, you’ll make it without running out.
- If you see a light far away, SHUT OFF EVERYTHING!!! And hide under your ship, the angler leviathan will rush through and wont see you, but if it does, you HAVE to kill it, or it’ll shred your ship apart.
- Have a coordinated crew, teamwork is needed the most here, no bullshit, all business, ya’ll gotta be on it together.
- Have a good ship steering system and an ice breaker. The Pandemonium is riddled with dead ships and black ice, you have to be able to dodge the boats and break the ice, pronto.
- Train your haki like your life depends on it, because it actually does.
- If you hear the whisperer's voice in your head, tell your crew to sing a shanty, it likes most of them, but avoid sacred texts or vulgar songs, you’ll only get one warning.
- Sirens are the same as the normal ones, but you should also avoid looking at these ones too, they’re VERY convincing.
- Faceless fish will only move when you don't look at then and it wont make noise at all, keep one of your members fixed at him, it’s too fast for you, otherwise.
- Most bullets and blades don't work, but seastone and armament haki works on some monsters.
- Have a good doctor on board, lot's of rations and and a lot of clean water. You mind find stuff on dead boats if you're lucky, but don't count on it.
- Don't make too much noise, most creatures in this place are sensitive to sound, run your engine on low RPM and cruise steady.
- Avoid the reef, at all fucking cost. it's easy to avoid, luckily. You'll smell the corpses from around 30 meters away. in short, it's the kind of place where hatchlings are, i don't need to tell you my logic about that.
(THIS PART WAS EXPUNGED FROM THE OFFICIAL GUIDE, THIS IS ONLY IN THE ORIGINAL JOURNAL.)
I'm glad we made it out alive, but the mental drain... it's not for the weak. Constant nightmares, thick air, nothing to see for miles, having your best friends almost die, I don't wish it on anyone. I'm just... glad my little Mary made it out okay. She was playing like normal, laughing like normal, smiling normally, she didn't see all those horrors, Thanks to Anne. Just seeing Mary being a normal kid like nothing happened, it's been keeping me going. it keeps ALL OF US going while we heal from... the Pandemonium.
-Captain of the Burning Angels, Thomas D. King
END OF JOURNEY
The Napster's last voyage
XX Summer XY13 • 14H03
Off we go then, into hell. Captain Fang insists everything's going to be fine; easy for him to say, with his fancy devil fruit powers. Anyways. Crew is 12 strong, With the captain, myself, Luth, Raguu, Kandee, Pip, Drax and 5 hires who I still cant understand how we got on board. Promise of riches and fame, I imagine. Sailing in with the wind, crossing the threshold fells like entering fog. All the noise quiets, the wind dwindles, and sunlight dims. We're headed to some sort of reef island, which is usually underwater but is alledgedly poking out this time of year
We drift in the accursed sea, the whole crew uneasy; except for Fang, he's talking big game about the treasure we will find. I'll believe it when I see it. In the meanwhile, we have to kick the engine into gear, or we'll just hover here forever.
XX Summer XY13 • 15H12
It's hard to tell the passage of time here. You cant see the sky, wether it be the sun or the stars. And it seems to stretch forever, at least for me. I could've sworn we've sailed for half a day, but my watch says its barely been an hour.
We shifted the engine to low consumption, because going full throttle attracts attention. We had to send a decoy which was simply swallowed by the waves, no ifs or buts. I hate it here, but Fang wont be convinced to turn back, He's growing more erratic by the minute. We're close, he promises.
XX Summer XY13 • 15H44
I guess he was right; Raguu spotted the coral reef not to far away. I'll admit I'm relieved to see it there; I was halfway sure we'd sail off until we die. Everyone find this place eerily quiet, but I can hear churning below. Noone listens. Anyways, the crew's morale is in high spirits. Seeing the island gives us all a pep in out step. Fang's rambling about all the riches within. I've gotta go now, convince Fang to not push the engine back to max- last thing we want is something following us to land. We should get there soon, hopefully we can get this over with quickly.
XX Summer XY13 • ??H??
No treasure. No survivors. Just shadows that ate everything. I dont know how I made it out. I couldnt save anyone. Why am I here. The ship is sinking. Dont go on the reef. You'll die like all of us
